Simon & Polly - to be married on May 27, 2012
After this couple met when Simon was invited to Polly's Christmas dinner in Hong Kong, they had kept in touch for many years via Facebook, long distance calls, and many many postcards, which are featured is some of the photos below.  They are now together in Calgary and inseparable.  They are seriously the cutest couple and it was such a blast to photograph them!

The shoot started in the late afternoon on one of the last warm days of fall.  Polly envisioned her perfect engagement session to take place out in nature with horses, so I organized a ride with Okanagan Stables up at Heartland Ranch.  I photographed a wedding at this location many years ago and have been to a couple of concerts there as well, so I know the area very well and had a vision of the beautiful images I could create at sunset on the bluff overlooking the Okanagan Valley.  After an introduction to their horse Remington or 'Remi' for short, we headed out across a beautiful golden field with Simon leading Polly on the horse.  Simon brought along his Polaroid camera and shot many pictures of Polly riding and self-portraits of the two of them shot at arms length.  I seriously love goin' old school with photography and really appreciated the unique quality of the shots that Simon captured.  Katherine set up a special picnic for the sweet couple including a bowl of fresh organic strawberries, French lemonade, and European chocolates from Annegret's Chocolates; suitable as Polly works at a chocolate shop in Calgary and dreams of opening up her own pastry shop someday.  The shoot ended off with an incredible sunset that exceeded my expectations and I am thrilled about the portraits that I created.

This beautiful collection of pictures is a small testament to their amazing love for each other.  I am so excited to photograph their traditional Chinese tea ceremony at their wedding in May and look forward to getting to know them more.

Jen & Don - married on October 1, 2011
Living in one of Canada's driest climates, we were a little shocked to see how much it rained on the first Saturday of October.  We were expecting a little rain here and there but no, it rained...relentlessly...the entire day; however, our fabulous and brave couple from Calgary embraced it.  Don, his best man, and future brother-in law started the day, old school, with a straight razor shave downtown at Kelowna's coolest barber shop, Plan B.

After getting ready with Jen and her maid of honour, we headed off to West Kelowna to capture their First Look at Gellatly Nut Farm. Being optimistic, we convinced ourselves that the large numbers of trees were going to protect us from the majority of rain, but really it was wet and we all looked on in amazement as Jen elegantly maneuvered her way through the rain in her Christian Louboutin heels. After some drinks at The Cove Resort next door, Jen & Don bolted off in a vintage white Corvair convertible to Summerhill Winery for their ceremony and reception. Their ceremony commenced in the pyramid at Summerhill Winery, which was lit with hundreds of candles amidst the barrels of organic wine. We love the pyramid and the beautiful limestone that lines the inside hallway. It totally exudes an old world ambience steeped in mystery. After the ceremony, the couple ventured outside to saber some champagne, Napoleon style, with a sword. And OMG, Jen totally rocked it on the first try (see image below). Escaping the rain, we headed back into the pyramid with the two of them for a series of candlelit portraits. Before the reception, we quickly took some images in the intense rain and impeding darkness around Summerhill's property. Although challenging, we created some dramatic images. At one point the rain and darkness was so intense that I couldn't see what I was shooting!

As we entered the reception, I think we were all relieved to be out of the rain and immediately were greeted by their family & friends and the warm smell of candy apples that they made for their guests. Jen & Don totally wowed us on the dance floor with their super fun moves and got everyone groovin'.
A beautiful, exhilarating day! Congratulations Jen & Don! We hope your mini-moon in San Francisco was filled with awesome times and adventures!
